A Social Networking Site, Diaspora*, Claims to be the New "Anti-Facebook"

Will this new social networking site be the death of Facebook?
With the increased hype of Facebook (thanks to the upcoming movie, The Social Network out in theaters on October 1st) it's some good timing that a new social network will be launching its way to be "Anti-Facebook."
Like Facebook, Diaspora* uses a minimal coloured template
So, what exactly is Diaspora* (yes, it includes that little asterisk)? It's a new social networking site that acts a lot like Facebook (i.e., status updates, photo uploading, "wall" communicating) but there is one main difference with Diaspora*. You get to own your own data and if you don't like it, you can delete it completely without any information left in the server.
You may also be wondering, "So? I can do that with Facebook, too! Just click on the delete button!" It's a bit complicated with Facebook. Like many social networking sites, Facebook still 'owns' your photos even if you delete them off your page. Because you uploaded to their centralized server, they keep all of your information, photos, etc. even if it's no longer on your 'public' profile. Also, even if you privatized your private profile, your information can still somehow be leaked.

Diaspora*'s main concern is privacy. So they've come up with a concept where you can upload your own information through 'seeds' and share directly with your friends. It's basically cutting the middlemen (which would be Facebook in this case). Because if you've ever downloaded torrents and shared music through Limewire, you know you need to have that other person allow access for you to download that song. Basically you'll be "downloading" the other person's photos, profiles, etc.
Since it's still in the early stages, don't ditch your Facebook page entirely. Like any small startup company, there will be a lot of things to be fixed. But, it sure does sound very attractive to know that Big Brother isn't watching your every move - not all anyway. And what's ironic is that they do have their own Facebook page, too!
Will you Lovelies be ditching your Facebook for Diaspora* in the future?
